The PBA tour's eighth event of 1961, the $21,900 San Jose PBA Open, was held at Saratoga Lanes, in San Jose, CA. The first day of PBA competition was June 13, 1961. The competition ran until June 15, 1961. 38 bowlers cashed in this competition. Dick Weber, of St. Louis, MO, won his eighth career PBA title and the first prize of $3,000. Rounding out the top 5 Don Carter, Ronnie Gaudern, Earl Johnson, and Jim St. Johnson.
