Peter Vilfan (born June 29, 1957 in Maribor) is a Slovenian basketball player, sports journalist and commentator, and a politician. Since December 2011, he is a deputy in the Slovenian National Assembly.
Vilfan played for KK Union Olimpija and the Yugoslavia national team, with which he won a gold medal in the 1978 FIBA World Championship in Manila.
Club career
As well as KK Union Olimpija, Vilfan played for KK Jugoplastika (now known as KK Split) and for KK Partizan.

Yugoslavia
Vilfan made 121 appearances for Yugoslavia between 1977 and 1983, making him the third most capped Slovenian player for Yugoslavia. He played in five international tournaments: the 1978 FIBA World Championship, the 1979 European Basketball Championship, the 1981 European Basketball Championship, the 1982 FIBA World Championship and the 1983 European Basketball Championship. He won one gold and one bronze medal in the World Cup, and one silver and one bronze in the European Cup.
Slovenia
Vilfan was the first captain of the Slovenian national basketball team, following Slovenia's independence from Yugoslavia.
Retirement
After his retirement Vilfan began working at the Slovenian radio and television network as a sports commentator. He also opened a basketball school for children.[1]
