Nowshehra or Naushera is a town and a notified area committee in Rajauri district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Nowshehra is located at 34°08′N 74°48′E / 34.13°N 74.80°E / 34.13; 74.80.[1] It has an average elevation of 1,575 metres (5,167 feet).

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,[2] Nowshera had a population of 9,122. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Nowshera has an average literacy rate of 79%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 76%. In Nowshera, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. A beautiful village 'Bagnoti' come under the juridiction of nowshera.The village is known for its rich cultural and civilised society and the village is also known for his greenry of mountains and the irrigation facilities to the farmers.Electercity and PHE water supply is used by every household in the village. The number of households in the village are:- 272,the population of village is :- 1,421 in which 713 are males and 708 are females.The village have highest literacy rate and sex ratio as compare to other villages of tehsil Nowshera.The litracy rate is so much higher that you can easly find educated person in almost every house of the village and in some households all family members have master degrees in different subjects.so, there is a large community of teachers in the village and majority of population is engaged in educational department or sector.The village is located on the jammu poonch national highway and it is about 103km away from jammu bus stand.
