José Miguel Organista Simões Aguiar, aka Miguelito (born 4 February 1981 in Póvoa de Varzim), is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays for Apollon Limassol in Cyprus. A speedy player he can operate as defender or midfielder, on the left side of the pitch.
Club career
While at Rio Ave FC, in whose youth system he arrived at age 10, Miguelito broke into the first squad aged 18. He was a fan favourite for his fast counterattacks which would often lead to crosses and goals.
Transferred to Madeira's C.D. Nacional in the 2005 summer, he was there considered of one the best left wingers in the Portuguese first division. After an impressive season, in which he did not miss one game as the Madeira side qualified to the UEFA Cup (notably scoring against his former team, in a 2–0 away win), he was bought by S.L. Benfica, on 22 August 2006,[1] having previously been voted the league's best defender by newspaper Record.
In 2007–08, after having managed just three appearances in Portuguese League Cup, being barred by former Brazilian international Léo, Miguelito joined Sporting Clube de Braga in January, on loan.[2] In August, he was released by the Reds and joined Madeira's C.S. Marítimo, which had just qualified to the UEFA Cup.
After a good first season, Miguelito fell out of favour, inclusively being demoted to the B team and, in late January 2010, moved on loan to C.F. Os Belenenses.
Personal
Miguelito's younger brother, Sérgio Organista, is also a footballer. A youth product of F.C. Porto, he went on to represent, among others, Pontevedra CF.
