Kotilingala was the capital of Satavahana kings in Karimnagar district. It is located on the bank of the Godavari River, and has a traditional Shiva temple for Hindus, the Sundareshwara Swamy Temple.
It is popular for its kotilingas. It is used to be the first capital of Satavahanas. It was a river port in their dynasty. There were transportation facilities to the towns located on river Godavari bank such as Bhadrachalam.
