Kandal (Khmer: កណ្ដាល), is one of the central provinces (khaet) of Cambodia. Neighboring provinces are (from north clockwise) Kampong Cham, Prey Veng, Vietnam, Takeo, Kampong Speu and Kampong Chhnang. A province in central Cambodia. This is an area in the outskirts of Phnom Penh. Has the area's 17 largest countries, but the most densely populated and second largest after Phnom Penh.
Geography
Kandal is located directly surrounds Phnom Penh on the Mekong river. The province is part of the greater Phnom Penh Metropolitan Area. In most parts it is as urbanized as the capital[citation needed], and the boundary between the two provinces is nearly unrecognisable.
Administrative divisions
The province is subdivided into 11 districts (srok). The districts are further subdivided into 146 communes (khum) and 1087 villages.
According to the Population Department at the end of 2009, Kandal Province has a population of 1,265,085 people, composed of many ethnic Khmer. (With the greatest number. Is everywhere in the province), China, Vietnamese (The coinage and immigrated to the reign of the two) and Thais (migrated from Koh Kong and Buriram), mostly Buddhist.
