KBJZ-LP (94.1 FM) is a radio station broadcasting not only a Jazz format, but also many other types of music from vintage to current hip-hop. KBJZ is licensed to serve Juneau, Alaska, USA. The station is currently owned by Gastineau Broadcasting Corporation.
It is known for its eccentric programming, including the freestyle sessions of local hip-hop artists under the supervision of The Genius, international underground punk rock presented by local rocker David Conway, and, in the past, Collette Costa's daily 6AM-12PM Morning Madame program. KBJZ also includes a lesser-known weekly program, "Musical Explorations with Lucille and Grandpa," which offers a huge range of music for a variety of musical tastes.
Also, it has been home to the local DJ extraodinare, DJ Astronomar, whom spent many nights in this small cubby of a broadcasting room with his colleagues and friends spinning freely and making new mix-tapes which have been exclusive to the KBJZ library of music. This was once the place where a simple person felt like they were reaching out to all ears listening and provided inspiration to himself and others.
