Coordinates: 1°03′11″S 37°05′40″E / 1.053184°S 37.094411°E / -1.053184; 37.094411 Gretsa University is a private university located within Thika Municipality along Garissa Road approximately four kilometres from the junction of Garissa Road and Murang'a-Nairobi highway.It is well served by a network of roads including the Nairobi-Thika superhighway and the major highways to the regions of Central,Mt. Kenya, Eastern, Northern and North- Eastern Kenya. Gretsa University admitted its pioneer students in September 2006 after receiving the Letter of Interim Authority from the Commission for Higher Education in May 2006. The University began with three pioneer degree programmes in Business, Computer Science and Hospitality Management. These have continued to attract students from various parts of the world.The third lot of degree students graduated in December 2012. Several diploma and Certificate groups have graduated over the years.

In pursuit of its objective of being a professional quality-driven institution, the University has continued to expand its facilities and to develop new and relevant academic programmes that are designed to meet the needs of society.The University has positioned itself well to play its role and offer its contribution in the world of reputable institutions of higher learning.
