Gosnell High School (or Gosnell Secondary School) is an accredited comprehensive public high school located in the city of Gosnell, Arkansas, United States, located northwest of Blytheville. The school provides secondary education for students in grades 7 through 12. It is one of four public high schools in Mississippi County, Arkansas and the sole high school administered by the Gosnell School District.

Academics

Gosnell High School is accredited by the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) and has been accredited by AdvancED since 1962.[2] The assumed course of study follows the Smart Core curriculum developed by the ADE. Students complete regular (core and elective) and career focus coursework and exams and may take Advanced Placement (AP) courses and exams with the opportunity to receive college credit.

Gosnell High School was nationally recognized as a Bronze Medalist in the Best High Schools Report 2012 developed by U.S. News & World Report.[3]

Extracurricular activities

The Gosnell High School mascot and athletic emblem is the Pirate with blue and gold serving as the school colors.[4]

Athletics

The Gosnell Pirates compete in interscholastic activities within the 4A Classification via the 4A Region 3 Conference, as administered by the Arkansas Activities Association. The Pirates participate in football, bowling (boys/girls), golf (boys/girls), basketball (boys/girls), cheer, competitive cheer, baseball, softball, and track and field (boys/girls).[4]

On February 11, 2006, the Gosnell boys basketball team were on the winning side of the highest scoring game in Arkansas prep history with a 221 combined point game (Gosnell 114, Brookland 107).[5]

The 1998 Gosnell Pirates football scored a state record 77 touchdowns in a season, which has since been eclipsed twice.[5]

Clubs and traditions

Gosnell students participate in competitive debate and speech competitions. Students may also engage in a variety of clubs and organizations such as: Future Farmers of America (FFA), FCCLA, Student Council, Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and Quiz Bowl.
