Girouxville (
/ˈʒɪrʊvɪl/)[dubious ] is a village in northern Alberta, Canada, located 58 kilometres (36 mi) south of the town of Peace River.
Demographics
In the 2011 Census, the Village of Girouxville had a population of 266 living in 129 of its 147 total dwellings, a -5.7% change from its 2006 population of 282. With a land area of 0.58 km2 (0.22 sq mi), it had a population density of 459/km2 (1,188/sq mi) in 2011.[1]
According to the 2006 census:
- population of 282 living in 139 dwellings, a 7.8% decrease from 2001.
- land area of 0.58 km2 (0.22 sq mi)
- population density of 489.0 /km2 (1,267 /sq mi).[2]
History
- 1915: The name of the settlement was changed from "Fowler" to "Girouxville" after one of its first settlers, whose last name was "Giroux".
- 1917: The first post office was opened.
- 1941: Girouxville opens its first Credit Union and Co-op store.
- 1951: Girouxville is incorporated as a village.[3]
Notable people
Singer and actor Robert Goulet lived in Girouxville for a portion of his teenage years.[4]
