Observe, please, that the indicated gentleman is actually smiling. All known references for battle fatigue indicate that the patient has become dissociated. Dissociated people do not smile as they are not emotionally present.

Further compare http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WW2_Marine_after_Eniwetok_assault.jpg with this image. This Marine appears dissociated or at least very very very tired.

I submit that as the soldier is wearing a sling and his arm is bandaged, he may have just been given morphine to relieve his pain. Being high on morphine would account for both the creepy smile and the claimed dissociation.

It is indeed creepy -- understatement, freaking SCARY! He does have "the stare" though, so it's an accurate photo. The above post possibly explains it as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.246.55.111 (talk) 04:44, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I know I'm just an anonymous IP but I concur with the above, in that the picture is profoundly spooky and actually gave me a bit of a start! I hope the young man recovered somewhat... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.171.197.27 (talk) 13:29, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

How long has this picture been up now? The guy is clearly smiling. 74.220.50.70 (talk) 03:26, 18 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Fake? edit

its a real pic

There's a clear line across his face where it suddenly changes color, a line that conveniently separates the contrasting eyes and mouth. This isn't two pictures spliced together is it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Woscafrench (talkcontribs) 19:51, 28 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
