I'm sure the sailor at the breach is Robert Ford Darrell STANLEY, He and another shipmate deserted later that year in 1903, went to Los Angelas, later retuned to Canada Joined the army 1914, got a kings reprieve for deserting, served overseas in France etc was a Sargent in the Royal Canadian Engineers
