Confirmation of public domain status? edit

This work was published in the United Kingdom in 1911, so it should be subject to the Copyright Act 1842, which provided that the copyright of every book published in the lifetime of its author would endure for the remainder of the author's life and for a further seven years after their death. If this period was less than forty-two years from the first publication, then the copyright would persist for a full forty-two years regardless of the date of their death. The UK copyright law was changed in 1911 by the Copyright Act 1911, which applied to works published in 1912 and after. Under the latter, the term of copyright in the UK was extended to the life of the author plus 50 years. The author, Roald Amundsen, disappeared 18 June 1928 and was presumed dead, with the search for his plane and remains being called off in September, 1928. Even should the 1911 Act somehow apply to this 1911 publication, the time has expired and this image from the book is in the public domain in the UK, is it not? Thus, the image can be copied to Commons as in the public domain in its country of publication and in the United States, yes? Geoff | Who, me? 22:55, 14 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
