Burgundy edit

The area labelled "Burgundy" now is in fact Franche-Comté. Burgundy proper lies to the west. Should it be relabelled?

Franche Comte is part of Burgundy proper, being historically comitial Burgundy (i.e. Franche Comte means Free County: of what? you have three guesses :p ), whereas what the french call Burgundy was ducal Burgundy; the main difference between the two is that during the middle ages, one was in the orbit of the kings of France and the other was in that of the holy roman emperors, albeit generally under a single ruler.

If I recall correctly, "free" in this sense was like the free cities of the Holy Roman Empire: it meant without intervening layers between the possession and its overlord. PMLawrence (talk) 12:26, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wales edit

Wales is not marked, appearing as England. This fails to recognise the linguistic, historical, cultural and administrative differences - particularly in 1648 (e.g. English was little spoken there then). PMLawrence (talk) 12:30, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

This is a political map. France, Spain, the Ottoman Empire, are/were very diverse places; they're still single political entities. See the Kingdom of England. --Inops (talk) 16:31, 1 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Roussillon edit

Roussillon in southeastern France was still Spanish until 1659.--76.110.169.129 (talk) 06:34, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Swiss edit

There has never been a country called "Swiss". Swiss is a verb, not a noun. It's either Switzerland or Swiss Confederation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.208.1.116 (talk) 06:38, 9 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
