The artwork of this Devo album cover was taken directly from the book "The Beginning Was the End." by the German author Oscar Kiss Maerth. This book played a part in Devo's philosophy of De-evolution (Mankind is not progressing forward. Instead it is regressing backward.) The premise of "The Beginning Was the End" is that modern man devolved from a species of brain-eating monkeys.
