Better Source Required edit

I have received a Bot notification regarding this file requesting that I supply a direct link to source in order to confirm a claim to copyright. I have deleted the bsr tag for two reasons; 1. It is not necessary as the metadata information provides this information, and 2. Because I uploaded this file using the wikipedia wizard and if it was felt to be necessary, then the wizard should have requested it. I suggest that whoever invoked the bot on this file takes the matter up with those responsible for how the upload wizard works.Graemp (talk) 21:40, 10 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

The metadata doesn't provide this. The metadata only claims that the file comes from the National Portrait Gallery, which is exactly the kind of inexact sources which {{bsr}} tells that you shouldn't give. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:04, 10 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes it does. "Copyright holder © National Portrait Gallery, London". Graemp (talk) 19:58, 11 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
No it doesn't. It only says "Copyright holder © National Portrait Gallery, London" which isn't detailed enough as you can't verify it. It is essentially the same thing as a "generic base URL" in the {{bsr}} template, except that you have the name of an institution instead of a base URL such as http://www.npg.org.uk/ which isn't enough either. --Stefan2 (talk) 14:02, 12 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
It is a clear sign of progress that you now seem to acknowledge that the NPG claim copyright and that this is displayed on the file page. This information is detailed enough. The information that appears in the metadata acts as verification which is nothing like a "generic base URL". Graemp (talk) 16:15, 12 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
There is still just a generic base source as you still only mention an organisation without any way to verify the information. Metadata can be modified, so the metadata can't be used as source. Also, there is only generic base information in the metadata. --Stefan2 (talk) 16:21, 12 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
There is nothing generic about the metadata as is contains information specific to the file. Graemp (talk) 16:25, 12 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
