Summary

Description
English: Occupying about 8 acres at the far western end of Williamsville, between North Long and Reist Streets, Williamsville Cemetery began its existence in 1810 as the Long family burial plot - who, like many of the families in the village at the time, were devout Mennonites who worshiped at the stone church at the corner of North Forest Road - but in 1824 was opened for burial to all village residents. Probably the oldest extant cemetery in Erie County, it contains the remains of many prominent locals including two-term Republican Congressman Edward J. Elsaesser (1904-1983). The Soldiers Monument seen at right here was erected in 1947 by the George F. Lamm Post #622 of the American Legion. The cemetery was named a Village of Williamsville historic landmark in 1992.
