Summary

Description
English: This house is listed as an official Michigan Historic Site. It is the third oldest house in Grosse Pointe. The house was built by William Buck, a very wealthy English farmer in 1849. It was made of locally made brick and the walls are 14 inches thick. Buck owned the house until his death in 1873. A lawyer, Henry Russel bought the house but spent most of his time at his Detroit residence. In 1912 he gave the house to his daughter and her husband - Harold Wardwell. While living in the house they were asked by Henry Ford if he could purchase the house for display at Greenfield Village (now the Henry Ford) museum in Dearborn, Michigan because of the beauty of the home. The couple would not sell. It then was sold to the Grosse Pointe Memorial Church and after sold to a Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ross. They still reside in the house today.
