English: Quantico, Va. (Sept. 7, 2005) - The Ultra Armored Patrol Vehicle is a research project funded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR), at the Georgia Technology Research Institute. The project’s goal is to develop a prototype vehicle that demonstrates improved ballistic and mine protection technologies. An innovative survivable crew capsule, which utilizes a new combination of armor materials, is mounted on a commercial truck chassis. Faceted crew capsule geometries are being used to provide better deflection of pressure waves from blasts when compared to current configurations.
