Description
English: The U.S. Navy heavy cruiser USS Louisville (CA-28) is hit by a kamikaze in Lingayen Gulf, Philippine Islands, 6 January 1945. The aircraft was a Mitsubishi Ki-51. 43 men were killed and at least 125 were wounded. Rear Admiral Theodore E. Chandler, commander of Cruiser Division 4 (CruDiv 4) was among the killed, as he was fatally injured helping sailors man handle the fire hoses to put out the massive flames during the attack.
