Mays is one of fifteen U.S. military athletes competing in the 2000 Olympic games as members of the U.S. Olympic team. In addition to the 15 competing athletes there are eight alternates and five coaches representing each of the four services in various venues. Mays is a Navy aviation boatswain's mate (Launch and Recovery Equipment) attached to the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67). Mays lost the match to Kalilov, but wasn't pinned.
