Summary

Description Helliwell House at Todmorden Mills, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Named after the Helliwell family, the Helliwells were originally from Todmorden in Lancashire, England and renamed the area along the Don River after their native town. The family established a successful brewery and distillery in the Don Valley. Helliwell House was built by William Helliwell in 1838 to accommodate his young family. It is a rare example of a surviving adobe mud brick home in Toronto.
