Summary edit

Hergé cartoon, digital photo. A version of the Tintin adventure "Land of Black" published in a French newspaper as "Land of Liquid Gold". Of interest because it shows how the original story differed from the one most commonly available today and, how in the 1940s, French editors changed some aspects of the text in order to appease wartime censors.

It is believed the use of this image in the article Land of Black Gold is covered by the "fair use" legal doctrine because:

  • It is of much lower resolution than the original edition (copies made from it will be of very inferior quality).
  • It does not limit the copyright owner's rights to market or sell the work in any way.
  • No free or public domain images have been located for this edition.
