DescriptionThomas Gerard's memorial to his wife - Trent - geograph.org.uk - 1418578.jpg
English: Thomas Gerard's memorial to his wife - Trent Thomas Gerard was the fourth generation to live at the manor house at Trent. He was an antiquarian and historian of local landed families. In the early seventeenth century he travelled Dorset and wrote a topographical "Survey of the Countie of Dorset" - this was not published until 1732; he also wrote a "Particular Description of Somerset".
In 1618 he married Anne Coker of Mappowder in Dorset, a fact of which he was immensely proud as one can guess from the lavish memorial. The Cokers were a very well connected family which gained him access to the archives of several other ancient local families. Thomas died in 1634. Arms see: Visitation of Dorset, 1623, p.45[1]
