Text Appearing Before Image: COPTRIGMT, 191 PLEASONTOX AND CUSTER, THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE BATTLE Gregg held Custers brigade, which had been ordered back to the left of the line, in order to help meet theattack. The Seventh Michigan Cavalry met the charge of a regiment of W. H. F. Lees brigade, and thiswas followed by a charge of the First ^Michigan, driving back the Confederate line. Then followed counter-charges by the Confederates until a large part of both commands were fighting desperately. In this ter-rible cavalry combat every possible weapon was utilized. This photograph of Pleasonton on the right, whocommanded all the cavalry at Gettysburg, and of the dashing Custer, was taken three months before.
