English: "Overflow of the Thames on Tuesday [29 January 1850] -- Lambeth-Stairs", in 'Illustrated London News, Saturday 2 February 1850, front page. Lambeth Stairs was near to Lambeth Palace. Poor river wall maintenance meant that the area was flooded whenever there was an unusually high tide.
