Summary

Description
English: Spessartine
Locality: Nyet (Niit; Niyit; Niyil), Braldu Valley, Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan (Locality at mindat.org)
Size: 1.7 x 1.6 x 1.4 cm.
When these specimens first started emerging from Pakistan, they were (and still are) regarded as some of the finest crystallized Spessartine specimens in the world. They are for my money, the finest red Spessartines available today. This is a pretty nice little thumbnail, and almost competition quality. It consists of a relatively sharp, lustrous, gemmy, rich wine red color dodecahedron with trapezohedral modification. It’s almost textbook showing a nearly 50/50 blend of the two habits. These specimens are becoming less and less available on the market, certainly in the last 5 years. Considering how widespread and diverse the various species of Garnet are, it is surprisingly difficult to find crystallized display specimens such as this one. Garnets as a whole are not very common to find in fine quality crystals, especially in this size.
