English: Sandy Hook Archeological Site Canon No. 85, which was mounted at Fort Hancock, in front of a residence on "Officers Row", Hartshorne Drive. Married officers and their families lived in the housing facing Sandy Hook Bay which offered cool breezes and a view of the sunset. Officers housing usually faced the parade grounds. Fort Hancock was deactivated in 1974. It is located in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The Sandy Hook Archeological SIte, which includes Fort Hancock, is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, which is administered by the National Park Service. The weapon is a Civil War-era Rodman gun, either 10-inch smoothbore or 8-inch converted rifle.
