The image above is from a file relating to a Royal concert in honour of the King and Queen. The 24 August event was presented by the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation and held at the Civic Theatre in Christchurch. It was a glamourous affair; evening dress with decorations was the expected attire. Conducted by John Hopkins, the programme included a work by New Zealand composer Douglas Lilburn:
Festival Overture - Douglas Lilburn
Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks - R. Strauss
Serenade No. 4 in D Major - Mozart
Symphony No. 9 in E Minor (from the New World) - Dvorak
