Summary

Description
English: This part of the wall is located at the archaeological site of the Areopagus which is next to the archaeological site of the Ancient Agora. However, in antiquity, there was no distinction between the two sites and they were both included within the boundaries of the Ancient Agora. The wall was built in the aftermath of the invasion of the Heruli in 267 A.D. and the destruction of the city. As a building material was used fragments from the destroyed monuments nearby. Near the lower-left corner of the image is visible a square tower. It was built over the ruins of the Sanctuary of Demeter, Persephone, and Triptolemus (the so-called Eleusinion). The remains of the sanctuary are visible to the left of the tower. The paved street next to the wall follows the course of the Panathenaic Way and leads to the Acropolis. The camera is placed outside the fortification wall.
