English: The Palingoproer (Eel Riot) was a popular uprising in the Jordaan in Amsterdam on July 25 and July 26, 1886. "The Troubles in Amsterdam. The eel game on the Lindengracht (lime tree canal) on July 25. Drawing made on the spot, by Mr. de Haenen, special envoy of the Illustration."
