Summary

Description
English: Nottingham Arboretum: statue of Feargus O'Connor the Chartist The statue of Feargus O’Connor is a reminder of Nottingham’s proud radical traditions. The Chartist Movement, which sprang up in the 1830s, calling for universal suffrage and other good things, was probably the world’s first working-class mass movement. O’Connor, elected MP for Nottingham in 1847, was the only Chartist Member of Parliament.
