DescriptionNeish Island on Loch Earn from Bioran Beagg - geograph.org.uk - 1579843.jpg
English: Neish Island on Loch Earn from Bioran Beagg This small island was said to be inhabited by wild clansmen (the Neishes) and their families hundreds of years ago : ostensibly, it provided a safe refuge. But, allegedly, one night their enemies (the Macnabs) carried a boat over the hills, north of the loch, and mounted a surprise attack. Only one child survived the murderous onslaught by hiding and swimming ashore.
The island, like many in Scottish lochs, appears to be a "crannog", i.e. man made rather than natural.
In these more civilised times, the nearest threat is from the Four Seasons Hotel, seen on the shore beyond the island!
