Description

This is the village of Burnham Market in Norfolk. Burnham Market is one of the Burnhams, a group of adjacent villages in North Norfolk. It is the result of the merger of three of the original Burnham villages, namely Burnham Sutton, Burnham Ulph and Burnham Westgate.

The Green is in Burnham Market. The day we visited, there was loads of cars parked around and there was a market going on the Green, furniture was on sale - bric-a-brac.

This building is Market House, previously Lime Tree House. Might also be known as Lime Tree Cottage. Is Grade II* listed. Market House and Lime Tree House, Burnham Market

TF 8342 BURNHAM MARKET MARKET PLACE (north)

12/42 Market House (formerly 5.6.53. listed as Lime Tree House) and Lime Tree Cottage.

G.V. II* House. Earlier, perhaps C17, build with applied early C18 facade. Flemish bond brick mixed red and smut pantiled roof. 3 storeys, 5 bays. Ground floor has 4 outer sashes with glazing bars, 2 inner thinner sashes with glazing bars flanking the door. 5 first and 4 second floor sashes with glazing bars, the thinner windows blocked up. All sashes wooden framed, slightly recessed, under flat rubbed brick arches. First floor has earlier sashes with thick glazing bars. Fine wooden porch with fluted Tuscan Doric columns in antis and answering fluted pilasters, entablature with guttae and triglyph frieze. Triangular pediment with guttae, leaded roof. First floor brick platband with moulded upper and lower strings, later moulded gault brick coping to attic parapet. 2 end and one off centre stacks. Roof recessed behind second floor parapet. Lime Tree Cottage is attached at rear. Listing NGR: TF8321642181
