Summary

Description
English: A drill core showing a load cast, a sedimentary structure in which denser sand (light-colored) compresses an underlying water-rich mud (dark-colored) layer, deforming (squirting into) the layer. To better see the shape, note the flat line wrapping around the core from the left. This is the original bedding contact between the sand and mud; the 'cut' down below that line of the sand is the load cast, in the center of the core. The load cast starts to end and come back 'up' to the deposition line toward the right of the core. Also note deformed bedding planes within the mud. Ruler is metric, showing centimeters.
