Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8)	Leonard Cohen created and released a version of a historically significant song "La Complainte du partisan". The article describes the history of the French language song by Anna Marly and Emmanuel d'Astier de la Vigerie in 1943 through its many incarnations, including those using the English interpretation by Hy Zaret, such as Cohen's version, which is recognised as the most famous.
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1)	The image is a photograph of a 7-inch single's cover. The work is copyrighted and no free-to-use source is available. The complexity and features of the image could not be re-created with enough detail to be recognisably representative without the result being subject to the same copyrights.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3)	The image will only be used to visually identify Leonard Cohen's 7-inch single of "The Partisan" as released in 1969, in the {{Infobox song}} summarising the release details, on the article about the song, which originated as, and is detailed in the article about, "La Complainte du partisan".
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2)	The image is a photograph of a physical copy of the printed cardboard record sleeve/cover, which shows clear signs of wear over time, and is of a substantially lower resolution than the original source image used to print the cover.
