DescriptionLansdown Road near the Gordon Lamp, Cheltenham - geograph.org.uk - 1471991.jpg
English: Lansdown Road near the Gordon Lamp, Cheltenham The lamp with its three visible white globes can be seen on the roundabout. It is said to commemorate General Charles Gordon 'Gordon of Khartoum'. There is a wiki article about him which, surprisingly, doesn't mention the lamp Charles_George_Gordon That made me wonder whether the lamp doesn't in fact commemorate another General Gordon, one of two famous generals who may have invented London gin, the other one being a General Booth. Since the only reference I have for that contention is a mention in the film 'The Titfield Thunderbolt', it's probably best to discount that possibility.
