Description

Planet Jupiter as seen by the STEREO-A HI1 on 2008 November 23. Jupiter is the second brightest planet (mag -2.7) because it is the largest planet. (Venus is the brightest planet in the sky at mag -4.6 because of the proximity to Earth and high albedo.)

As seen from STEREO-Ahead HI1 (Heliospheric Imager):
On 2008-Nov-11 Jupiter was just entering the field of view 23.2° from the Sun and brighter Venus (24°; 1.5AU; mag --3.9) was just exiting the field of view.
On 2008-Nov-23 Jupiter was 13.5° from the Sun at a distance of 6.06AU with apmag -1.9.

On 2008-Dec-03 Jupiter was 5.5° from the Sun and about to exit the field of view. Venus is still only 28.8° from the Sun just outside the left side of this image and you can see the diffraction of Venus off baffle edges.
