English: Portrait of John Jacob Withrow (1833-1900). Withrow was a local contractor and land developer in Toronto, Canada, and he was also known for:
  • He was one of the founders of the Toronto Industrial Exhibition (predecessor to the Canadian National Exhibition) - he served as the exhibition's president for a number of years;
  • His firm, Withrow and Hillock, served as the contractor during the construction of Massey Hall during the 1880s, and Withrow served as chairman of the Massey Hall Board of Trustees.
  • He was a benefactor of the Hospital for Sick Children.
  • He served as a City Councillor for 5 years commencing in 1873, for both St. David's and St. Thomas wards.
  • He ran unsuccessfully for Mayor of Toronto in 1872 and 1885.
A park and a street in Toronto's Riverdale neighbourhood are named after Withrow.
