Description

Thasus sp., Coreidae: Heteroptera. Part of Don Ehlen's "Insect Safari" collection. Note the powerful hind legs, that in many similar species are adapted to wrestling rival males off females from behind, often breaking off the opponents legs in the process. Similar legs and habits occur in related families of Heteroptera, such as the Alydidae and in unrelated groups of Coleoptera such as the Hopliini.
