Summary edit

"In Belgien roocht alles!" (In Belgium, everyone smokes!); WWI postcard art: Scene of a Belgian (Flemish?) family(?) (3 people; older man & woman, young-adolescent-ish boy) standing in front of a (farm?)-house; all 3 of them are smoking. They appear to all be wearing wooden "Dutch" clog-type shoes, but are dressed in somewhat ragged casual/everyday clothing, not "ethnic costume". Drawn by a German soldier; part of the German occupation forces in Belgium. Circa 1915?. Caption in German on front, as quoted above. Pen & ink drawing; done on a standard-issue, blank-faced, form-printed German-forces "Feldpostkarte". Signed; not (yet) able to make the name out the properly (i.e.: with certainty); "M. surname uncertain, but possibly beginning with an "S"(?), appears to be a solder as signature includes some kind of company#. 2 examples of works by this artist are uploaded (items 34 & 35). Help in identifying the artist would be appreciated. Wittig collection, item 35; private collection, fam. Wittig et cie.

Created during WWI, therefore obviously pre-1923; uploaded here to avoid Commons' "dual jurisdiction" PD rule.

Please do not transfer to WMC unless you can confirm the item's PD-status as per Commons' requirements.
