So they fought through the long winternight, until a grey dawn lightened the easternsky, when the Tuatha de Danann, finallyrepulsed, withdrew from the battle, mourningtheir heaps of slain. But only one of Midirssons was killed, though all the other brotherswere sorely wounded. As for the Fians, therewas not one single inch of their bodies whichhad not its spear-thrust, and for days afterFionn could not lift his spear-arm, so stiff andsore it was from the work of that night.
