Significance
The house is a fine example of a well preserved late eighteenth century local farmhouse which grew to accommodate the needs of the owners. The Townsends, owners during the eighteenth century, were a prominent family in Chester County politics. There is also a fine early eighteenth century springhouse on the property probably built by the original owner, James Pugh.
