| Description |
English: Jersey barriers and sandbags protect the visitor center at Bandelier National Monument, New Mexico, United States after the 2011 Las Conchas Fire raged through Frijoles Canyon and roughly one third of the Jemez Mountains. The naked and burned hydrophobic earth caused runoff from monsoon thunderstorms the following summer to flood El Rito de los Frijoles. the flooding was sufficient to move the jersey barriers and cover the area with ash and woodland debris. The efforts of the NPS staff ultimately saved this historic structure from destruction. |
