Description
English: Friar Street, Reading, looking westwards from St. Laurence's Church to the statue of Queen Victoria, where a horse-drawn cab waits, c. 1888. A wagon carrying sacks, probably of coal, heads west. On the south side of the street, part of No. 164; Nos. 163 and 162 (Frank Attwells, Binfield and Company, music shop). On the north side, the gate-piers with gas-lamps on them at the end of Station Road; Nos. 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8 and 7 (Queen's Hotel); Nos. 6 and 5. 1880-1889 : photograph by H. W.
