File:Fred C Palmer Underdown House Eddington 001.jpg

Original file(3,336 × 2,096 pixels, file size: 987 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Description

Postcard photo of Underdown farm house, Kent, England. The postcard is unused and not postmarked. The photographer was Fred C. Palmer of Tower Studio, Herne Bay, Kent, who is believed to have died 1936-1939.

Points of interest
  • The attic windows appear to be in poor repair
  • The white dots on the grass near the fence are birds
  • The house still exists as a listed building, but the cedars are now gone

Editing

This is an unedited scan of a historical print that has darkened with age; it would be inappropriate to adjust the brightness because detail would be lost. It is suggested that edits of this image be uploaded as separate files.

Border

The remaining border of this image is important for researchers of this photographer. Some photographers trimmed their images more than others, and Palmer has a reputation for producing smaller postcards than other early 20th century UK photographers. He took his own photos, developed them in-house onto postcard-backed photographic paper and trimmed them himself. This is one of the reasons why the quality of his work is so interesting, and why there is an article and category for him on English Wiki. Researchers need to see exactly where the edge of the postcard is. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
