Summary

Description Image of Ferdinand the Holy Prince (Fernando o Infante Santo), a Portuguese royal prince who died a prisoner in Fez in 1443. This image was drawn by royal painter Manuel Soeiro (Emmanuelis Sueyro) and first printed in p.174 of the Anacephalaeoses id est Summa capita actorum regum Lusitaniae by Antonio Vasconcellos, S.J., published 1621 in Antwerp. It is the only known image of Ferdinand the Holy in armor. The accompanying note (p.194), Vasconcellos states it was based on an image of Ferdinand at his own tomb in Batalha monastery but "he is depicted there in a vulgar outfit, whereas here we depict him with the armor of a warrior."
