Description
English: A band structure (energy level) outline of the EDMR mechanism. A donor impurity (P) such as a phosphorus atom sits just below the conduction band. The electron's (blue circle) spin (small arrow) anti-aligns with the magnetic field (B). A recombination centre (R) sits between the donor and the valence band and provides a recombination pathway for the donor. While the P and R electron spins are aligned, the Pauli exclusion principle prevents the second electron from decaying from P to R and the recombination pathway is blocked. A microwave photon (γ) can flip spins and allow recombination.
