Summary

Description
English: This photo, taken in 2010, looks easterly at the SW side of this fire control structure at Fort Andrews, which was completed in 1904. Located about 400 ft. SE of Battery McCook, it was the oldest fire control structure at the fort. The ceiling of the highest (observation) level was about 25 feet above the ground. It originally contained the fire command post for the entire fort and also served as an observation station for Battery McCook. By WW2, it served only as a Battery Command post for Bty McCook, observation having been taken over by the 1944 station on the Fort's higher western hill. During its heyday, all trees and brush around it were cleared away, offering it a terrific view of the surrounding harbor, but making it starkly visible to attackers.
