This non-free media file has been set up with as small a version as possible, to comply with Wikipedia's non-free content policy and United States copyright law. The current resolution has been manually selected to achieve as small an image as possible without destroying the image content. According to Wikipedia's policy for non-free content, the amount of non-free work should be as little as possible. In particular, non-free media on Wikipedia should not be usable as substitutes for the original work.

The skins were assembled by hand and combined from the collection of skin files and upscaled. NameMC regularly requires Mojang servers checking for changes in usernames, capes, and skins. It is meant to be a public-facing mirror as opposed to the raw Mojang API (documentation). To verify authenticity, convert a username to its UUID (`https://api.mojang.com/users/profiles/minecraft/<username>`), get the base64-encoded skin data (`https://sessionserver.mojang.com/session/minecraft/profile/<uuid>`), decode it, and go to the skin URL (e.g. `http://textures.minecraft.net/texture/...`). The skin should be the same file as would be downloaded from NameMC. UUIDs may also be found using Wikidata property Minecraft UUID (P8727) if the player has a Wikidata page.
